Wyland detailed the Senate version of "Race to the Top" legislation, S.B. X51, which he coauthored with Sens. Gloria Romero (D-24), Bob Huff (R-29) and Elaine Alquist (D-13), and updated attendees on its progress. He also spoke about the state's 2010/2011 education budget. Other topics included allowing school districts greater flexibility on deciding how to best use their funds; the impact of the H1N1 flu virus on school districts, and states' deferred payments to school districts, which are contributing to negative cash flows.
