Credit union training gives back to communities in need this April

Madison, Wis. (April 7, 2014) - CUNA announced today a new effort to improve people's financial lives through the charitable efforts of the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF). For every print and online CUNA course purchased in the month of April, CUNA has pledged* to donate $1 toward the NCUF's vision to make financial freedom achievable through credit unions. .

"We're making the most of financial literacy month this April by letting our training give back," said Marlo Foltz, AVP of Blended Learning, CUNA. "We invite credit unions to join us in furthering our guiding purpose of 'People helping people' by taking part in the education opportunities available."

Since 1980, the NCUF has served as the philanthropic and social responsibility leader of America's credit union movement. Through its dynamic experiential learning programs, financial certification, Biz Kid$, Credit Union Development Education training and disaster relief, NCUF acts as a catalyst to help improve people's financial lives through credit unions. Many people's lives have improved because of National Credit Union Foundation programs and grants. For example, Quandra Bonds in Roanoke, VA has affordable and dependable transportation to lighten the load of juggling a job, children and household responsibilities. A grant from the National Credit Union Foundation helped start Freedom First Federal Credit Union's Responsible Rides program, which helped Quandra who said that on her first excursion out with her car, she completed her weekly errands in half the time.  When she put her shopping bags in the trunk the first time, she said it "felt so good…and she was still in shock."

"We work to help credit unions make a tangible difference in people's lives, and contributions like these make our work possible," noted NCUF Executive Director Gigi Hyland. "With the support of CUNA and credit unions this April, we'll be able to make an even bigger impact in credit unions' communities nationwide throughout 2014."
