Greiner, KathrynKathryn Greiner, AFC

Called the "Budget Guru" by the Ann Arbor Observer, Kathryn has been helping people improve their budgeting skills since 1976. Kathryn provides budget counseling as a free service to members of the University of Michigan Credit Union.

Trained and certified as a credit counselor, Kathryn developed a Credit Education Program to teach consumers the skills needed to establish workable budgets, avoid bankruptcy and improve creditworthiness. In private counseling sessions, she teaches how to control spending, reduce debt, begin to save - and still enjoy life! With her unique blend of compassion, realism and humor she helps them find sensible, workable answers to their financial problems.

As a follow-up to the budget analysis, Kathryn provides a Money Management Skill Building Workshop, where clients learn a simple system for personal financial management. Participants receive Greiner's Bill Book, which guides them through the learning process and provides an on-going method for budgeting and bill paying.

Kathryn hosted a call-in radio talk show called "Credit Line" on WAAM Radio for two years, has produced four credit education videos and her articles have been published in several credit union newsletters. Ms. Greiner is the editor of ON MY OWN, a newsletter on the wise use of credit by and for high school students. Ms. Greiner provides a myriad of financial literacy workshops in a "lunch and learn format" throughout the area. She also teaches financial counseling skills to professionals through the Credit Union National Association.

Kathryn is an active member of Credit Professionals International, and serves as a local committee chair as well as an officer on the District level. In 2006 Kathryn received the prestigious International Credit Professional of the Year Award. Creditors International-Great North Central District presented Kathryn with a Distinguished Service Award in 2001 because of the credit education she provides.

Here’s your chance to get your brand in front of more credit unions by sponsoring a CUNA eSchool!

To provide more credit union staff the opportunity to hear detailed information regarding their credit union duties, CUNA adapts many of its face-to-face schools into eSchools. Just like face-to-face classes, CUNA eSchools allow attendees to see and hear a presentation, ask questions of the speaker and refer to handouts. eSchools are delivered in three to ten classroom sessions, allowing attendees to integrate their new knowledge into their daily responsibilities.

What does an eSchool sponsorship include?

When you sponsor a CUNA eSchool, your organization will be showcased before and during the event.

Before the event:

  • Inclusion in the email invitations
  • On the website
  • In the marketing emails for the eSchool

During the live eSchool:

  • Promotional slides or video running in the "waiting room" as attendees enter
  • Your logo in a pod
  • A poll question at the end of each session with an opt-in to be contacted by the sponsor
