Executive Management Team

JOHN FRANKLIN

John Franklin is the executive vice president and chief operating officer for the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Madison, Wis. location, where he manages overall strategic, tactical, and administrative operations. Included in these operations are education and training, publications and Internet-related services, research, new product development, and other services for state leagues and affiliated credit unions.

Franklin came to CUNA after an eight-year tenure as the president and CEO of the South Carolina Credit Union League where he achieved a personal goal of attaining 100 percent league and CUNA affiliation for the first time ever in league history. Among other noteworthy achievements during his time in South Carolina, Franklin developed one of the leading governmental affairs programs in the nation. Additionally, he established a credit union service organization (CUMAC) that worked to place ATMs for credit unions that could not do so on their own.

During his cumulative experience of more than 30 years with the South Carolina league, Franklin also served as chief operating officer for the league and the league service corporation, as well as manager of the league service corporation’s audit services department.

Prior to his league service, Franklin was a federal credit union examiner with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

Franklin has also served on various credit union-related committees and tasks forces in a number of different positions. He served on CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) and for two years as chair of the Examination and Supervision Subcommittee of the GAC.

He also served as board chair for the Credit Union Legislative Action Committee (CULAC) and for the HRValue Group. Franklin served as secretary, treasurer, and now first vice chair of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) Executive Board, as well as past chair and liaison to AACUL’s Legislative and Regulatory Task Force.

He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of South Florida.
