RYAN DONOVAN

Ryan Donovan is the vice president of legislative affairs in the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Washington, D.C. office. CUNA’s Washington office provides political, legislative, regulatory, legal, public relations, public affairs, state government affairs, and other services for state leagues and credit unions.

He assumes a full range of lobbying duties at CUNA, utilizing his extensive background and understanding of financial services legislation to represent the interests of the credit union movement before both houses of Congress.

Most recently, he was the director of federal government affairs for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues.

Donovan has nearly a decade of Capitol Hill experience with two prominent members of Congress. Prior to joining the leagues in 2005, he worked on Capitol Hill as chief of staff and legislative director for House Financial Services Committee member Brad Sherman (D-Calif.). He worked for House Democratic Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.) from 1997 to 2000.

His involvement in financial services legislation includes Check 21, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction (FACT) Act, Sarbanes-Oxley, and the Financial Services Regulatory Relief Act.

A Missouri native, Donovan earned a master’s degree in government from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. He currently lives in Virginia with his wife, Kristi, and daughter, Paige.
