Letters to Congress

Letter to Senator Tom Johnson regarding S. 660, the Economic Opportunity Protection Act of 2003

April 23, 2003

The Honorable Tim Johnson
United States Senate
136 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Johnson:

On behalf of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and America’s 82 million credit union members, I am writing to commend you for introducing S. 660, the Economic Opportunity Protection Act of 2003.

Your early introduction of this legislation is much appreciated as the debate and consideration of the reauthorization of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) begins. CUNA supports S. 660 because it would make permanent all of the Fair Credit Reporting Act preemptions currently set to expire on January 1, 2004. In our view, the enactment of such legislation would assure the free flow of credit through the maintenance of uniform national standards. This would greatly benefit consumers.

Again, we commend you for introducing this important legislation. We look forward to working with you as Congress undertakes to address this critical issue.

Sincerely,

Daniel A. Mica
