Letters to CongressLetter to Senator Shelby Regarding Nomination of Gigi Hyland and Rodney Hood to the NCUA BoardOctober 24, 2005 Honorable Richard Shelby Dear Chairman Shelby: On behalf of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), I want to thank you for scheduling the nomination hearing for Gigi Hyland and Rodney Hood as members of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) board. As you know, the board has been operating with only a single member since the end of December, and only two members for several months prior to that. It is critical that the NCUA operate with a full board as soon as possible in order to assure that the agency has the critical personnel in place to fulfill its mission of assuring the safety and soundness of our nation’s credit unions and the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF). On a personal note, while I am certain that Rodney Hood will make an excellent board member, I have all the confidence in the world that Gigi Hyland will perform her duties at the highest standards. Gigi worked for CUNA and the corporate credit union trade association for several years. I had ample opportunity to observe her skills. She is a talented attorney, has outstanding judgment, and always knew how to balance the needs of the corporates and credit unions she represented with the need to maintain a safe and sound system. I also am confident that you will hold votes on the nominees within the committee and the full Senate at the earliest possible times. Again, thank you for your immediate consideration of these nominees. Sincerely,
