CUNA Renaissance Commission Seeks Information from Credit Unions, Volunteers For Focus Groups

Sept. 5, 2000

Contact:
Pat Keefe
(202) 682-4200

WASHINGTON -- While the first public hearing of CUNA's Renaissance Commission isn't until next month, credit unions can contact the Renaissance Commission right now to offer their views of how to help bolster the value of federal and state credit union charters.

And credit unions can get even more deeply involved in the process by volunteering to join a focus group that will be providing its comments to the Commission.

The CUNA Renaissance Commission has been established to develop recommendations of legislative and regulatory initiatives designed to bolster the value of federal and state credit union charters. The Commission will make its recommendations to CUNA, through the association's Board of Directors.

Credit unions wishing to contact the Commission can use any one of three methods:

  • By sending an e-mail message to RenComm@cuna.com;
  • By calling 1-800-356-9655, ext. 4712 (just follow the voice-mail prompts);
  • By mailing your comments to:

    Renaissance Commission
    c/o CUNA
    805 15th St., NW Suite 300
    Washington, DC 20005-2207.

The Renaissance Commission is gathering information from credit unions and other groups that have an impact on credit unions to develop recommendations. Other methods planned by the Commission to use in gathering information are two public hearings and focus groups made up of credit union representatives and others.

Credit union representatives can volunteer for the focus groups by using the contact information provided.

"We need a broad spectrum of the credit union community to participate in this effort," said Frank Pollack, chairman of the Commission and president/CEO of Pentagon FCU in Alexandria, Va. "The Commission is looking for recommendations that reflect the breadth and depth of the issues and concerns facing credit unions and their ability to serve their members in the future."
