Frequently Asked Questions About R.E.S.C.U
What is R.E.S.C.U.?
The "Relief Effort and Support for Credit Unions" (R.E.S.C.U) focuses the energy and resources of the credit union movement to relieve and support credit unions in the hurricane- and flood-ravaged areas in the Gulf states. Essentially, the program gathers in one place, and under one name, all of the activities and efforts already being undertaken by CUNA, the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) and credit unions to provide relief and support.
What activities are included under R.E.S.C.U.?
A key aim of the program is to marshal resources - including equipment and donations of cash through the National Credit Union Foundation - to assist the credit unions in the states affected by the hurricane disaster. Additionally, through CUNA's regulatory advocacy, legislative affairs and communications resources, the program aims to keep credit unions informed of the latest regulatory and legislative developments related to disaster relief and support related to the disaster.
Why was the R.E.S.C.U. program established?
CUNA and the Leagues had already been accomplishing a large chunk of a relief effort for credit unions, but under various programs, efforts and plans. R.E.S.C.U. brings all of these labors under one umbrella, and facilitates focus for the movement's efforts in helping credit unions in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama get back on their feet, and continue serving their members.
Who is involved in R.E.S.C.U.?
CUNA serves as a coordinator at the national level, working with the Leagues, credit unions and other system players (including, and significantly, the National Credit Union Foundation).
