Using Project Differentiation for SEG Development

The growth of your credit union depends on many things including the addition of new Select Employee Groups (SEGs) and increasing penetration of existing SEGs. With your Statement of Commitment you can use the unique philosophy and mission of your credit union as a new tool for recruitment and development.

Your Statement of Commitment shows that your credit union is different from other financial institutions. Since your SEGs play an important role in the lives of your members, it’s important that they understand the good work you are doing.

Here’s how to use your Statement of Commitment for SEG Development: Share your Statement of Commitment with your existing and potential SEG contacts. This will show them that your credit union is better for their employees because unlike other financial institutions you are:

  • Committed to members in all income groups
  • Cooperatively owned
  • Democratically operated
  • Diverse in members, staff and board
  • Involved in corporate citizenship and the community Increase communication with your SEGs to motivate them to further promote your credit union and consequently increase penetration. You can do this by:
  • Publishing a newsletter for your SEGs
  • Inviting SEGs to participate in events such as:
    • International Credit Union Day
    • Children’s Miracle Network
    • Annual Meetings
    • Grand Openings
    • Auto Sales
  • Supplying marketing materials to your SEGs before running a promotion
  • Teaching SEG employees about money management

By proactively communicating with your SEGs, you’ll show them that you’re more than just another financial institution because you have a commitment to your members and the communities in which they live and work. You’ll find that many of your SEGs are struggling to achieve what you already have with your Statement of Commitment. This will win their respect and motivate them to promote your credit union to their employees.
