MADISON, Wis. – Learn how to differentiate a credit union through emerging marketing channels and how to effectively work with third-party information security assessment firms in two new white papers from the CUNA Councils.

“Emerging Marketing Channels: Blogs, Word of Mouth, Buzz, Viral, and E-mail,” sponsored by the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council, defines each of these new channels and how they may be able to differentiate products in the current business environment. The paper also provides examples of how and why credit unions are using each of these channels. A selection of books and references addressing emerging marketing channels is included at the end of the paper for those who are interested in a more in-depth look into each of these topics.

“Staying Ahead of the Bad Guys: Working With Third-Party Information Security Assessment Firms” from the CUNA Technology Council reviews the federal regulations requiring that financial institutions provide adequate information security. It also explores how credit unions can develop effective partnerships with security assessment providers to evaluate their security measures and to test how well their data is protected. A number of considerations in hiring a security firm are put forth, along with the necessary checks and balances to ensure their assessments are effective and thorough.

CUNA Council members are entitled to complimentary copies of these white papers; non-members may purchase the white papers for a price of $50 per copy. The papers are available online at www.cunacouncils.org; select the “Shared White Papers” link located in the “Shared Council Content” drop-down menu and select the “Marketing & BizDev” tab for the emerging marketing channels paper, or the “Tech” tab for the third-party information security paper. From there, non-members should follow the non-member link to order.
