CUNA to Offer Audio Conference on NCUA'S ISTEP I & II

MADISON, WI – CUNA’s Center for Professional Development is offering two audio conference sessions to help your credit union meet the new NCUA requirement to safeguard member information files and to the NCUA ISTEP exam. ISTEP I: “NCUA’s Expectations for an Effective E- Commerce Program” will be held from 12 – 1:30 p.m. (CDT) on Thursday, September 20, 2001, and ISTEP II: “Create an E-Commerce Plan for your Credit Union” will be held from 12 – 1:30 p.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, October 3, 2001.

The NCUA representatives and industry experts participating in these audio conferences will be sharing information that will be valuable to CEO’s, IT Managers, CFO’s, Compliance Officers, Internal Auditors, and credit union staff involved with online service offerings.

ISTEP PART I: “NCUA’s Expectations for an Effective E-Commerce Program” will be presented by Dan Sciorillo, Information Systems Officer in the Office of Examination & Insurance for the National Credit Union Administration, and Marcia A. Sarrazin, Director of Supervision in the Office of Examination and Insurance for the National Credit Union Administration. The session will answer the following questions:

  • What is an EC1, EC2, and EDPR and how are they used in the ISTEP exam?
  • What types of things are examiners looking for when conducting these exams?
  • What are the requirements in Appendix A to NCUA Part 748 (Guidelines for Safeguarding Member Information)?
  • What should credit unions do to prepare for an upcoming exam?
  • What are some common problems the NCUA examiners have discovered through the ISTEP exams to date?

ISTEP PART II: “Create an E-Commerce Plan for your Credit Union” will be presented by Mary-Lou Heighes, President of Compliance Plus, Inc. The session will cover:

  • Creating an E-Commerce plan.
  • Building a security plan from the examination questions.
  • Tailoring the program to meet your credit union needs.
  • Preparing for an upcoming exam.

You will also hear from some of your credit union peers on how they prepared for the exam.

The cost is $79.00 for each workshop, or both for $128.00. Registrations for ISTEP I must be received by noon (CDT) on Wednesday, September 19, 2001, and registrations for ISTEP II must be received by noon (CDT) on Tuesday, October 2, 2001. Cassette tapes are also available for $39.95 (plus shipping and handling). Tapes ordered prior to each conference will be shipped two weeks after the event.
