MADISON, WI – The Credit Union National Association, the credit union industry leader in training and development for credit union staff and volunteers, is accelerating its development programs for online education and other forms of distance learning.

"This announcement comes in response not only to recent national events, but to input from numerous credit unions looking right now for online real-time and anytime availability of educational options," says Mike Miller, vice president of the Center for Professional Development, for CUNA. Miller says that CUNA has been leading the way in credit union online development efforts up until now. "We’re able to accelerate our efforts because we have already been deeply involved in development and implementation for online programs for nearly two years."

Over the next four months, CUNA will be holding a series of thirteen audio conferences on a wide variety of topics. In addition, on November 7, CUNA will be conducting its first real-time virtual classroom session, which includes an instructor teaching and interacting with students as a group in an online format.

"We’re moving quickly to provide our highly respected lending, financial management and compliance schools in online formats by early next year, well-ahead of our original goals," says Plumer Lovelace, Director of Training Technologies, for CUNA. "We expect to have a calendar of online educational opportunities available on CUNA’s Web site within the next two weeks."

This move does not signal the end of CUNA’s presentation of in-person educational sessions at venues across the country, says Jill Tomalin, Director of Educational Resources, for CUNA.

"We’ll continue vigorously supporting the educational and development needs of credit unions through on-site training events," says Tomalin. "But our online initiatives will allow those credit unions who choose not to send staff to training for whatever reason the opportunity to still receive the very best in education and learning."
