Columbia CU’s Susan Dixon Receives First-ever “Coach” ELLy Award

MADISON, Wis. – Susan Dixon, assistant vice president of training and development for Columbia CU in Vancouver, Wash., was the recipient of the first-ever “Coach Award” from CUNA’s Experience Learning Live (ELLy) Training Awards program. The award honors credit union trainers who have significantly impacted a trainee’s career and life through education, mentoring, and coaching.

The ELLys are the only national awards presented to credit union trainers who do outstanding things in the area of professional staff development. The awards were presented at the 2007 Experience Learning Live conference, held Nov. 4-7 in Las Vegas.

First place awards and awards of merit were presented in the following six categories:

Coach Award – This new award recognizes a trainer who has changed a person’s career and life through education, mentoring, and coaching.

  • First Place: Columbia CU in Vancouver, Wash. – Susan Dixon

Training Professional of the Year Award – Honors exceptional achievements in performance and learning by a credit union training professional or department.

  • First Place: Universal 1 CU in Dayton, Ohio – Lisa Schaefer
  • Award of Merit: The Golden 1 CU in Sacramento, Calif. – Rose Halford
  • Award of Merit: Verity CU in Seattle – Tina Hall and Justin Martin

WOW! Award – Recognizes a credit union with the best overall training curriculum or event that energizes, empowers, and excites participants.

  • First Place (small CU): Missoula FCU in Missoula, Mont.
  • First Place: Educators CU in Racine, Wis. – Training and Marketing Department
  • Award of Merit: Teachers CU in Indianapolis – HR Training and Development
  • Award of Merit: Rogue FCU in Medford, Ore. – Training Department for Employee Professional Development

Training Champion Award – Singles out senior management staff in a credit union that go beyond the call of duty to support and develop the training in his or her credit union.

  • First Place: The Golden 1 CU in Sacramento, Calif. – Terry Halleck, president and CEO
  • First Place: Family Trust FCU in Rock Hills, S.C. – Senior Administration Team

Chi Phi Delta X II Award – This award represents the best development of a Credit Union University, and its effect on staff learning and performance, using CUNA’s Center for Professional Development products as the foundation.

  • First Place: A+ FCU in Austin, Texas – Training Department
  • Award of Merit: Bethpage FCU in Bethpage, N.Y. – Learning Center

eLearning Award – Winners had to demonstrate how technology-based training was incorporated into, and enhanced, credit union training programs.

  • First Place: Teachers CU in Indianapolis – HR Training and Development
  • Award of Merit: The Golden 1 CU in Sacramento, Calif. – Training Department

In addition to the ELLy Awards, four CPD Energizer Awards were presented during the conference. The awards recognize credit unions with innovative training programs that support CUNA’s Center for Professional Development training products as well as its mission of helping individuals reach their personal and professional potential. The winners are:

  • Scholarship Market: Liberty County Teachers FCU in Liberty, Texas
  • Small Market: Central Star CU in Wichita, Kansas
  • Medium Market: Navy Army FCU in Corpus Christi, Texas
  • Major Market: Navy FCU in Vienna, Va.
