MADISON, WI — The 2001/2002 Credit Union Environmental Scan (E-Scan) from CUNA’s Market Research Department this year includes a special bonus—results from a May 2001 survey of members in CUNA’s six professional development councils.

"CUNA Council members use the E-Scan as an educational resource," says Vicki Joyal, vice president, Market Research and Information, for CUNA, and the Scan's publisher. "An overwhelming 88% of Council members that have used E-Scan believe that it’s a ‘very useful’ resource. Adding their perspectives to the detail and insight the E-Scan traditionally provides only makes it an even more important, relevant tool."

This year’s E-Scan emphasizes trends and issues resulting from bank modernization, globalization, the U.S. economy, and the Internet. It also examines issues such as the untapped potential of small business owners, customer relationship management, the anticipated shortage of peak borrowing-age members, wireless and multi-channel delivery, and many others.

"E-Scan is CUNA’s most highly rated fee-based product according to a recent survey of credit union CEOs," Joyal adds, noting that, "Our goal is to make the report a valuable tool for credit union board and staff planning needs."

This annual report surveys the credit union landscape in terms of demographics, marketing, finance and economics, technology, financial products and services, human resources, and legislative and regulatory issues. It includes a section of strategic considerations within each chapter, and provides planning worksheets for credit union use.

The E-Scan is available in several formats, including the foundation report (stock #20583-PR), PowerPoint® presentation (stock #23507-PR), and video (stock #30006-PR). To order, call CUNA Customer Service at 800-356-8010, ext. 4157, or go to www.cuna.org and enter E-Scan in the search box.

With its network of affiliated state credit union leagues, CUNA represents America's 10,300 credit unions — which in turn are owned by more than 81 million consumers. Credit unions are not-for-profit cooperatives where people are worth more than money.
