The President has submitted to Congress his FY 2020 budget. In his outline, the President proposes to eliminate federal funding level for the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.
CDFIs finance community development initiatives, including small businesses, community facilities and low-income housing. Eliminating funding would make it more difficult for credit unions to provide this much-needed community assistance to consumers who are underserved, have a modest income, or are living in distressed communities.
As part of this service to members, some credit unions participate in the Department of the Treasury's Community Development Financial. The CDFI Fund provides financial assistance and technical assistance to CDFIs through its program and may offer grants, secondary capital, nonmember deposit or loans. Below are a variety of resources and talking points you can use to reach out to your members of Congress. Additionally, there are templates and tools to engage and educate your colleagues and credit union members.
