Joseph Goldberg

Joseph K. Goldberg recently retired as Director of the Division of Consumer Compliance Policy and Outreach at the National Credit Union Administration. In that role, he provided agency guidance on consumer protection issues, developed examiner and industry training, and oversaw the NCUA’s fair lending examination program.

Prior to joining NCUA, Joe was a practicing attorney. He worked initially in the District of Columbia and Maryland, but spent most of his legal career in Pennsylvania. He represented consumers and businesses in a variety of legal matters. However, after a stint as Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection in the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, he focused his legal work on consumer law matters. Joe worked in several law firms, maintained his own law practice and was a partner of a firm in Harrisburg, PA. He served a two-year term as President of the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators. Joe taught courses in Consumer Law and Consumer Legislation for 12 years as an adjunct professor at the Harrisburg campus of Widener Law School. He served a two-year term as President of the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators. He has taught consumer law issues to attorneys, industry and District Judges in Pennsylvania, and wrote portions of the treatise Pennsylvania Consumer Law. In 2009, he received the Excellence Award given annually to a private practitioner by the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network.

Joe received his B.A. from Franklin and Marshall College with a major in anthropology. He earned his law degree from the Columbus School of Law of The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Joe and his wife live in Richmond, VA, close to two of their three grandchildren
